Authorities on Wednesday arrested a New Hanover County insurance agent and charged him with 14 counts of embezzlement, according to state insurance regulators.
Earl E. Gay, of 785 Green Hill Road in Leland, is accused of taking more than $7,000 from life and accident insurance premiums while working for American General Life and Accident Company in 2010, according to? a press release from the N.C. Department of Insurance. The release stated that Gay was arrested in Brunswick County with the help of New Hanover and Brunswick authorities and placed under a $10,000 secured bond.
Agency officials said consumer complaints prompted the investigation.
